Cowabunga Dude...

Things needed to be cool surfers...
Big sunnies, clean wetties, long boards, bleached hair, good tan, optimistism, respect for the environment, tons of sunscreen, and BIG waves!

Our first impression of surf camp was not the greatest....we quickly learned that showing up at night, given a 5 minute tour around the place with a typical surfer dude (dreads, beer in hand and all) does not make for good first impressions.  Especially by the look on Kristens face...I'm pretty sure I thought she was going to steal the car and go to the nearest Holiday Inn! We settled into what we like to call "the tin can" of a dorm, and realized that we were happy to have the car to keep our stuff in! the next morning blinded by the WARM sunlight reflecting off of the Magic Bullet (our car) and the tin can, surf camp revealed its true colours! It's located right on the beach...literally we were 100m from the beach! The waves were so close that they would put us to sleep at night (after of course a couple of beers lol). The thing that amazed Kristen and I was the dome of stars that we walked under each night, so clear and so many! Literally, like we were in a snow globe...but instead of snowflakes they were stars! haha

The first morning we had off, so we went into Coffs Harbour which is a little beach town...but the first time Kristen and I fell in love with the coast! Also the first time Kristen put her feet in the ocean...it was a sentimental moment! The sun was out (we were so happy!), and we got lots of pictures.  That afternoon we prepared to either make total asses of ourselves, be eaten by sharks, or by the 4ft waves that we were surfing...
Our instructor took us through the rules so that we wouldn't look like kooks (that's a stupid looking surfer), slid into our sexy wetties, grabbed our long ass boards and headed down to the beach. The water felt great, wasn't cold at all actually...however we had some issues with the salt water burning our eyes, flushing our nasal cavities, and drying out our mouths.  At least our skin felt fantastic after being thoroughly exfoliated!
We both got up the first day and had an awesome time!

The next day, we had our own personal instructor Josh....(Jill sighs), and we were able to ride more waves like the pros! Jill has caught the surfing fever and threatened not to come home....and Kristen just wants to get a boogie board and ride the waves all up the coast (because it's cheaper)...

Now we are in Brisbane and off to the Australia Zoo tomorrow..home of the crocodile hunter! Crikey!
